Sarah Palin Plans to Remove Protection from Polar Bears.
From The Guardian: "The Republican Sarah Palin and her officials in the Alaskan state government drew on the work of at least six scientists known to be sceptical about the dangers and causes of global warming, to back efforts to stop polar bears being protected as an endangered species, the Guardian can disclose. Some of the scientists were funded by the oil industry In official submissions to the US government's consultation on the status of the polar bear, Palin and her team referred to at least six scientists who have questioned either the existence of warming as a largely man-made phenomenon or its severity. One paper was partly funded by the US oil company ExxonMobil. The status of the polar bear has become a battleground in the debate on global warming. In May the US department of the interior rejected Palin's objections and listed the bear as a threatened species, saying that two-thirds of the world's polar bears were likely to be extinct by 2050 due to the rapid melting of the sea ice. Palin, governor of Alaska and the Republican nominee for US vice-president, responded last month by suing the federal government, to try to overturn the ruling. The case will be heard in January."
Sarah Palin Promotes Mass Shooting of Alaska's Wildlife from Planes.
With a disdain for science that alarms wildlife experts, Sarah Palin continues to promote Alaska's policy to gun down wolves from planes. Wildlife activists thought they had seen the worst in 2003 when Frank Murkowski, then the Republican governor of Alaska, signed a bill ramping up state programs to gun down wild wolves from airplanes, inviting average citizens to participate. Palin thought Alaskans should be encouraged to chase wolves from aircraft and shoot them. Palin's administration put a bounty on wolves' heads, or to be more precise, on their mitts. - Mark Benjamin, Salon.com

Give Two Rescued Rabbits a Home for Life
Every spring in the U.S., thousands of bunnies are purchased as live toys for children. Exuberant children and ground-loving, easily frightened rabbits are not a good mix, however. Once the child loses interest and the rabbit grows into adolescence - including natural behaviors such as chewing, spraying, or digging - many rabbits are destined to be abandoned on the side of a road. The Rabbit Sanctuary, Inc. exists to rescue and care for these rabbits, as well as ones rescued from laboratories and commercial breeders. 10.00 US dollars will help give two rescued rabbits a 'Home for Life'. - greatergood.org

Melting Ice Endangers Polar Bears.
Future reduction of sea ice in the Arctic could result in a loss of 2/3 of the world's polar bear population within 50 years, according to a series of studies released today by the U.S. Geological Survey. Last December, Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne announced that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) was proposing to list the polar bear as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act. In January 2008, following a one-year review period, the Service is expected to make a recommendation to Secretary Kempthorne on whether or not to list the polar bear as threatened. - U.S. Geological Survey
Melting Ice Drives Polar Bear Mothers to Give Birth on Land.
If declines in sea ice availability continue, the authors expect that the proportion of polar bears denning in coastal areas will continue to increase, until such time as the autumn ice retreats far enough from shore that it prohibits offshore pregnant females from reaching the Alaska coast in time for denning. - U.S. Geological Survey

Save America's Wolves!
Alaska's majestic gray wolves are in grave danger. The state has issued permits to aerial gunners and pilots to chase the wolves, run them to exhaustion and shoot them from the air or to land and shoot them at point-blank range. More than 550 wolves have already been killed in this manner over the last three years! Help us Save America's Wolves!
